Shawna – EFDA, Lead Dental Assistant
A native of Southern Oregon, Shawna graduated from Rogue River High School in 2008. In 2011 Shawna married her husband Josh after he returned from his tour in Iraq. While attending Rogue Community College, she started a job in the dental field as a sterile technician at a local Rogue River office. She then decided to apply for dental assisting program and quickly fell in love with the dental field. Shawna started working at Johnston Dental Care in 2014 as Dr. Matt’s assistant and loves being part of a team that’s committed to providing the best experience possible for each and every patient. When she’s not at work she enjoys adventuring with her husband, daughter and dogs!
Dallas – EFDA
Dallas’ journey in Southern Oregon started in 2007 when her family moved here from Utah. She graduated high school in 2016 and started the Dental Assisting program at Abdill Career College in 2017. After graduating, Dallas started at Johnston Dental Care. She feels blessed to be working with such an amazing group of individuals. In her free time, Dallas enjoys spending time with her husband Mathew, hiking, riding quads, and going to the gym.
Gara – EFDA
Gara was born in Southern California and raised in Wimer, graduating from Rogue River high school in 1994. She had an interest in the dental field for many years while raising her children. When her youngest was seven years old she started taking classes at Rogue Community College. In 2013 she graduated from the dental assisting program, and in 2015 graduated with an associates degree. Gara loves being part of the Johnston Dental Care team and helping the day run smoothly for the doctors, her other coworkers, and most importantly for our patients. Her favorite procedures are crowns and extractions. When she is not working she spends time with her daughters, granddaughters, and fiance. Gara also loves hiking, hanging out at the river or lake, going to concerts, and entering contests.
Marissa – EFDA
Marissa grew up in the Rogue Valley and graduated from Crater High before becoming a Dental Assistant. She likes to be able to help patients feel comfortable in the dental office. Her favorite part of working at Johnston Dental Care is watching people get a big confidence boost and life change after creating a healthy smile! Marissa is married with 2 kids and 3 fur babies. When she is not in the office, they are outside hiking, rock climbing, hunting and spending time at local lakes and rivers.
Ashley – EFDA
Ashley grew up in Central Point and loves the beauty of the Pacific Northwest. She has always been interested in what goes on in the dental office and took the leap to start working in dentistry in 2019 with an interest in helping people improve their oral health and overall health as a result! She loves the mission of JDC in meeting the needs of each individual patient and working together to achieve a healthy smile. Outside of the office, she likes to hike, play sports and travel together with her son.
Amanda – EFDA
Amanda and her family moved to Grants Pass when she was twelve years old and she has loved Southern Oregon ever since. She graduated from North Valley High School in 2017 and pursued her career into the medical field. Amanda was a medical assistant for two years prior to beginning her pursuit into dentistry. She was a lab technician at an orthodontic office for two years and that’s where she found her passion for dentistry. She graduated from Southern Oregon Dental Assisting Education in Medford and is so grateful to be part of the JDC team. She thinks it’s so important to be confident in your smile because it’s one of the first things people notice. Her goal at JDC is to help people in our community gain confidence in their smile. Outside of the office she enjoys spending time with her husband, family, and her dog Duke.
Sommer – DA
Sommer and her family moved to Grants Pass when she was seven years old and she immediately felt captured by the beauty that surrounded her in Southern Oregon. She loves being busy and multitasking and has followed her mom into the medical field, first as a CNA but found her true passion in dentistry. She graduated from OSU dental assisting in Sept 2017, and started working with Johnston Dental care in July 2019. Sommer says “I’ve always had a desire to be a part of something that was life changing for others, to make an impact in others’ lives. The absolute number one thing I love about dentistry is the endless opportunities for growth. I personally feel very blessed to have found such a wonderful career that keeps on giving!”
